Who are the Singing Churchmen?
The South Carolina Baptist Singing Churchmen is a men's chorus made up of Music Ministers from across the state serving South Carolina Baptist Churches.

The South Carolina Baptist Singing Churchmen is a member supported group that has been in existence for more than 25 years.

They first met together to sing for our state convention meeting in 1958.  There were only a very few ministers of music at that time, and we began this group in order to encourage other churches to call ministers of music, and to give our minsters of music visibility in the convention.  Soon we began giving concerts in local churches and on other occasions.

Our first mission trip with a group of men was in 1968.  Tom Westmoreland took 20 members to the Philippines for 6 weeks.  They conducted simultaneous revivals in churches throughout the islands during the six weeks.  Our second trip was to take about 20 men to Alaska to conduct simultaneous revivals in March 1976.  It was two weeks in length and each minister of music served in a different church each week.

The Churchmen have presented concerts for the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference, Church Music Leadership Week, and for the American Choral Directors Association. The Churchmen have made several special mission trips which include the Gulf Coast, Baltimore, West Virginia, Puerto Rico, Romania, Taiwan and India. Each member considers this group to be an extension of his own ministry. With the offerings received at church concerts, the Churchmen have been able to aid foreign missionaries by providing musical needs and equipment to many parts of the world. The group also helps to provide musical missions support for home missions and for White Oak Conference Center with musical needs.
